The Bag Of Rocks

So many days, months, years had gone by as one broken man after another came by and her heart ached for them…wanted to make them ‘better’….wanted to heal them somehow and always failing and taking on the burden of one more rock….

….she sat down slowly by the side of the cosmic freeway and looked back….soooooo many broken men….some she had healed and they had gone on to give thier healed love to others and some broken for a lifetime; unfixable….yet in those many years were a few things…some great parties…some awesome hikes alone in the wilderness….

……ahhhhh yes the wilderness was really home but that too was gone now in the direction in which the sun once rose…..

She opened the bag of rocks and began to look at them….they were so pretty some of them….one was blue and gold….another obsidian with streaks of jasper fire…another was iridecent with rainbows radiating from it….there were a few lovely shells picked up from anscient beaches….empty yet so light and pretty…so many colours…….all her treasures in that bag…..

She looked at the tall young man next to her…..she tried to tell him…to teach him…but her words were not enough and he wanted sooooo much and there was no one to give it but himself…..she tried to teach him by showing him the examples she had collected….he tried to learn sometimes and other times was annoyed as he was finding his own pretty rocks to carry along the way….she envied him his treasures sometimes…they were such glorious treasures….she wondered if he could see how glorious they were and as she looked at her own…….

………how meaningless.

Twin sorrows sharing some time on the cosmic freeway as paths converged towards a destination neither could fully know…

….what did he see as he looked up the road in the same direction she looked? She saw a brilliant red sunset with grand purples and deep blues…she rose to keep going on as he collected another rock fromthe roadside to show her…..and she knew that soon he would have to leave the cosmic freeway altogether because his path went where there was no road….this flashed before her eyes as she rose……

…..oh the pain of moving! Shoulders aching and neck sore….Pain was a constant companion these days…she would walk a while longer with him….he walked slowly for her but he was impatient to be on even as he stayed.

She looked at the bag of rocks…..

All her life was in that bag….every lesson she could teach….every memory….every hope and every dream….maybe it was time……

She looked up at the young man and felt such love….she said,

“This is all I have…take it or leave it as you please it is yours now….I cannot help anyone anymore….”

She gave him the bag full of her treasures and looked at the setting sun…..there was still a long way to walk……..
