We Made Diamonds

Little child
I can still see you
In younger sunlight
Making home
From nothing more
Than green branches
The heavy
Merry Go Round
Push friends push
Run fast in cooling sweat
Grab the bars
Hang on
Lean back
Grubby hands
Light pine dowel
Newspapers spray-paint
Nimble fingers
Twist and tie
Elmer’s glue
We made diamonds
Decorated with ribbons
Shiny with paint
String rolled
Wind high my land
Long wide fields
Run! Run!
Catch the wind!
Let the string play out
Let it go my friend!
Throw it high!
No lines then to trip
Our soaring dreams
We flew
Little child
When innocence is gone
I give my life for pain
